i just don't get how so many people seem to be capable of saying "we need to artificially create work that doesn't need to be done so that people have jobs" with a straight face

When I'm inside the Beltway, the first question I get asked at social gatherings (back when we had them) is what do I do? When I'm outside, it's am I married and do I have kids? (When I was younger, there was an implied when was I going to have them. That has stopped.)

I love being an aunt and seeing VP Harris with her grandnieces and step-children makes me happy like seeing no other politician's family ever has. Those of us who didn't have our own kids aren't living some second-rate life, though women who aren't mothers are often sent that message. Seeing VP Harris in the second most powerful office in the country is important for so many people. I wanted Hillary for president in 2016 and Elizabeth Warren for president in the primaries last year, but realized how much Harris means to me when I started seeing her on stages with her family after she was the VP candidate.

Dems elect all the coolest people! I love that all the money Senator Leahy has received for his rolls in Batman movies have gone to support his local library, where he discovered his love of both reading& Batman. 📚🦇

As a courtesy, former presidents are typically assured continued access to the country’s secrets when they request it.

Trump shouldn't get access to any national secrets when he leaves office.

He already poses a danger because of the secrets he currently possesses, and one might claim it would be foolish to trust him with more sensitive information.

Got to use “I’M SPEAKING” on a work call today when a male tried to interrupt with “I think what she’s trying to say is..."

US Pol/Privacy

One thing that worries me about the Parler users migrating to platforms like Telegram and Signal is this may increase government demands for backdoors into those platforms.

With every fiber of my being I hope they don't. Not because I want a safe harbor for insurrectionists, but because privacy is a right for everyone.

I'm torn because I want them caught, but at the same time I don't want to trample on their or anyone else's right to having a private conversation.

Imagine being so privileged that you get to hold a seat and speak in front of Congress and think you're being censored.

@Penychen Funny BLM protested without guns and they got stuff accomplished so no we are not voiceless without assault rifles. Assault rifles have only one use that is to kill people.

I'm not sure folks understand how extraordinary an action this is for the Joint Chiefs to take. One the one hand, this is reassuring. On the other, it's unsettling they felt the need to go there. And every single person I've spoken to since then has felt unsettled at best, traumatized at worst.

We can never let this rest until there is accountability. The courts have done their part. The military has done its part. The Dems have stepped up. Where is the GOP?

So I got the Moderna vaccine at my job yesterday. I elected to have it administered in my non-dominant arm. The injection itself didn't hurt. I did have to wait 15 mins to make sure I didn't have an adverse reaction, before being allowed to go home. I have eleventy billion environmental allergies but no food or medication allergies.

Thoughts - I didn't feel any noticeable effects until right before I went to sleep around 11p. At that point my arm was a little sore but the flu shot from this past season hurt much more. I was a little tired but that's typical for a Monday. Today, my arm is still a little sore. I don't feel it unless I lift my arm up above my shoulder. I've been able to type, take notes by hand, and do my work with no issue. I get my second dose on 2/8 and will report how that one goes.
