When you can impeach a president, according to Trump’s defenders:
Trump could not be tried for previous crimes because he was president. Trump could not be tried for crimes he committed as president while president. Now they say Trump cannot be tried for high crimes and treason after his term.
The GOP is stating emphatically that Donald Trump is above the law, and by extension so are they. They want authorizationism. This impeachment is about more than Trump and Republicans' big lie. It's about the future of democracy.
A party that chooses power over democracy can't be allowed to have that power.
