By removing the ability to acknowledge slavery and racism in American society, Ron DeSantis and people like him eventually want to get to a point where students are never made aware that being treated unfairly is wrong. Because that's the society they need - one following their ideology without opposition.

Overbearing parents and legislators should turn their attention elsewhere because, to paraphrase certain scholars from the last millennium, those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them. In most disciplines, progress is made by moving forward out of our comfort zones to confront our fears, overcome obstacles, and open our minds to new ideas to question and to gather more information for further questioning. Unless reasonable people can deter this wave of ignorance, the current generation of students in certain school districts and future generations will remain ignorant.

@TonyStark
We are supposed to teach our children HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

Ron DeSantis doesn't even bother to hide his attempt to keep fragile white people in his base.

@TonyStark
Well said. The educational process should make students uncomfortable. Discomfort makes them ask questions.

@TonyStark I really wish people would wake the fuck up about the GOP. Why do they fall for their messaging BS hook line and sinker every fucking time?

@hankg
I really don't know. Can't even count how many voters I have talked to over the years. In the 90s, Republican voters started telling me that climate change wasn't real and wouldn't vote for anyone who wanted to spend money on it. How well that worked out. And on and on.

I have a close relative who believes he's one tax cut away from being a billionaire and that the depiction of green M & M's and whatever their BS is about CRT are important issues, even though he has a great life, 2 of his kids got taxpayer-funded community college educations and his kids all have healthcare (and so does he) due to the ACA.

There's not much reasoning there although I agree with you that the Democratic party really drops the ball and it's incredibly frustrating. Something just happened in my state in regards to that and the midterms. They can be so out of touch. I'd never vote for anyone else at this point but JFC.
