The American Academy of Pediatrics calls on parents to get their children up-to-date on shots before they return to class.
Drop in childhood vaccinations during pandemic may raise risk of other outbreaks when schools reopen, CDC says

Last time we switched from a Republican to a Democratic president the world was so relieved they gave him the Nobel Prize.
The GOP is a threat to America and the planet. I wish some reality-deniers here understood that as well as the rest of the world.
Global approval of the United States has rebounded under Joe Biden, survey finds:
@BruceBanner Things like this actually matter to Americans’ personal success, although tons of seditious GQP members won’t see it that way, even though they wanted everyone to love Trump at the time.
Texas has elections for its next attorney general in 2022. Maybe it should pick one who won't be investigated for misconduct by the Texas bar association.
Every lawyer who goes near the former guy seems to end up being investigated by their state bar association, in addition to the dine-and-dash treatment the former guy gives everyone. You'd think no one would want to represent him at this point. Well, no one who is any good at it does.
Florida: Afraid of rainbows. Can you catch being LGBTQ+ from driving over a bridge that's lit up in rainbow colors?
In related news, the spokesperson for the Florida Department of Transportation, which ordered the Jacksonville Transportation Authority to turn off its rainbow lighting scheme on Tuesday because it was "out of compliance," is named Beth Frady.
(The Jacksonville bridge lights were allowed back on Wednesday. Sarasota's request use rainbow lighting on its causeway for Pride was denied. Guess Florida doesn't like local decision-making when it comes to LGBTQ+ anything.)
The former guy wouldn't have been elected the first place if the GOP had not been preparing itself for years and years for a deliberate attack on the core of democracy. Most of the time, most of the GOP leadership is organizing unprecedented voter suppression through gerrymandering, oppressive voter ID laws, and roll purges while fighting any principle of social, political and economic justice.
Paul Krugman in this same publication has been warning us of the fascist rise within in the GOP long before the emergence of Trump. As has been said, he's a symptom of disease. The disease itself is so much worse.
@QueenRamonda Different primary preferences aren't necessarily a bad thing. As Democratic presidential primary candidates dropped out in 2020, they started adopting each other's policies, which made Biden's eventual platform more reflective of the Democratic electorate as a whole than if there hadn't been a competitive primary. So long as we all vote for the eventual nominee and they don't beat each other up, only make each other stronger, competitive primaries help, not hurt. (Exceptions to beating each other up are there for when candidates don't belong in a party primary, such as Elizabeth Warren's swift takedown of Michael Bloomberg in a single debate. You can't buy your way into the presidency, at least not as a Democrat.) @TonyStark
"Republicans need to have more faith in their policies and stop being afraid of a dangerous and diminished man who has divided the country and now divides our party." This is a noble and rational essay, but when I see the word "policies," I just have to ask, "what policies?"
The Republican party has lost whatever ideas it had, especially during the former guy years, when policies ended up being whatever benefited him pesonally. Opposition, culture wars, and name-calling aren't policies. And yet, isn't that the only thing Republicans are comfortable doing?
The days of Republicans who believed in cautious fiscal policy and liberal social values ended with Newt Gringrich in the 90s (if they ever even believed it.) The concept of "humoring" Trump brought us here, where a dangerous demagogue continues to spew lies believed by millions.
This party is over.

@TonyStark I am more liberal than many Democrats who have been winning primaries, as I'm sure plenty of our people on democracy.town are. I would rather elect the Democrat who can win in November than the one who will lose to the Republican. I've also been reasonably satisfied with what our elected Democrats have been passing, at least the ones in the House and in states where Democrats control the agenda. We have recalcitrant ones like Manchin preventing us from doing what we could with the majority, and of course there are many more things I'd like to see us do while we have it. But I'm also a realist, and politics is the art of compromise, including within our party. I'd hoped to see Jennifer Carroll Foy as Virginia's gubernatorial nominee, but McAuliffe did a fine job before and will again. I'm happy to see Virginia elect Democrats statewide -- when I lived there, I was stuck with two Republican senators and a Republican governor, though I lived in a heavily Democratic area.
I'm sure there will be Republicans running around in circles about this today even though they normally don't utter a peep about it when there's a Republican President, however this is normal economic recovery after a pandemic. It will even out.
And a reminder that all of it could have been avoided if their yahoo-in-chief had handled Covid properly.

Good news! Lots of moderate and Independent voters for Democrats to pick up. Republicans are catering to their fringe, Dems can take in the rest of us, the vast majority.
Well, polls of Democrats show most identify as moderates.
Add in Independents and a few moderate Republicans (Virginia has only recently turned blue and this is how it was done)
and this is the ticket to winning and getting the most votes, as in moving agendas forward and achieving progress.
Thus, if you are going to win and represent the people, it is best to stand for the things most voters want.
The GOP tries to get around representing what voters want by lying to them and creating hysteria and nonsense - they keep getting more and more ridiculous so they can cause distractions and do not have to actually talk about issues or plans. They don't have plans to help most Americans. They do not believe in science, civic responsibility, governance, equal rights, or democracy in general.
We do. #VoteBlue
